We took Cascade across to Tonga and Fiji this winter to scope out the fishing and diving over there. The game fishing in Tonga was amazing with plenty of Blue Marlin, Yellofin Tuna, Mahi-mahi, Sail Fish and all those other species we lack in the NZ winter. As stated in October NZ Fishing News 44 Marlin hits per day over 5 boats - that's pretty impressive odds by anyone's standards!! Interestingly there were plenty of Yellofin Tuna .. something Whakatane has been sadly lacking in the last few years.
Ranfurly Banks: Last year we had excellent fishing - Kingi, Hapuka and Bass with a few giants caught. Kingis (Ranfurly freight trains) were firing with some real monsters, notably the 50.6 kg world record KINGI caught by Rikki Williams !! We'll be looking to smashing that record again next year (there's challenge for you Rikki).
White Island: Spring conditions are warming up our waters, we are expecting the flying fish to show up soon providing excellent night fishing for Kingis which is always a must for anyone who hasn't done it before, especially amateur anglers. We are also looking forward to the blue water moving with White providing us world class diving - don't forget we have a compressor and tender on board for our divers conveniance.
Three Kings: Mid/late March we will be heading to Three Kings for our annual pilgrimage which offers excellent Marlin, Kingfish, Hapuka and Bass in one of the most scenic parts of the country. Not to mention the excellent Cray/scenic diving to be had around the islands in crystal clear water with amazing visibility and great inshore Snapper fishing.
Look forward to seeing you aboard again soon.
